book report number three; part two.

In the book Charlie St. Cloud, there were a couple themes. There was also a lot of things that Charlie figures out throughout the book. I think that the theme of this book was never give up on something you love.  I think that this is the theme because Charlie never gives up on Sam, he goes to the woods everyday and plays baseball with him, tells him things that happened that day. He tells him everything that he is missing out on by not being alive. Sam practically lives a regular life as a ghost when he is dead. I think that Charlie believes it is his fault for Sam’s death, and that Sam was too young to die. I feel that is why Charlie tries so hard to keep Sam’s life as human as possible. In this book, Charlie also figures out why he is given a second chance at life when he survives the car crash. He thinks that he is given a second chance at life to save another girls life that he really has feelings for. So, he skips a day with Sam, goes out on a boat to save this girls’ life. Sam assumes that Charlie has forgotten about him, and goes to heaven. While on the way to heaven Sam shows Charlie the way to save the girl, Tess’s life. Charlie jumps out of the boat and tries to find Tess; he finds her and hugs her really tight. When they get to the hospital and Charlie wakes up, he finds out that if he hadn’t hugged her really tight and gave her his body heat, Tess would have been dead.  I also think that another thing Charlie learned throughout this book was that he needs to try and care about everybody no matter how mean or rude they are to him. I think that he learns this because he was always nice to everyone, and that paid off when he got his life saved in the ambulance when he was already dead. Charlie continues helping others throughout the whole book, hoping for something in return, but not expecting it. I think that this was a book full of themes. I also think that this was a very inspiring and heartwarming book to read.
